Ohio Hispanic Coalition celebrates Children's Day "Día de los Niños"

The Ohio Hispanic Coalition celebrated the eighth annual “El Día de los Niños” (children’s day) on April 26th inside of the Ohio Historical Society. Hundreds of families attended to keep the tradition alive of celebrating this meaningful day for all Hispanics/Latinos.

Children from OHC's After School Program opened the event with a Parade of Flags. The show began with The New Republic Band, followed by the regional dance group “Corazon de Mexico”. "Fosforito" y "Cascarita", the clowns, danced and had fun with the children all day, while the Capoeira and Columbus Crew amazed the spectators.  Followed by WAIT OHIO, a group of very talented teenagers, who bring HIV awareness and promote abstinence to others.

Other performances included the NATWA puppet show, OSU Latino Folklore, Armani Dancers, and the Columbus Zoo. The grand finale consisted of the presentation of Mariachis to close the event.

There were more than 70 organizations providing information about their services and free health screenings for the Latino Community. In addition, local restaurants brought their delectable dishes from different countries from Latin America to the event.

The children enjoyed making jewelry; participating in “Milagros/ Miracles,” face painting, and many other activities.
