Día de los Reyes Magos

Día de los Reyes Magos — "The Three Wise Men" celebration is one of the agency's largest community events. The event is a Latino tradition that would take place on January 6th where the tree wise men would bring gifts to Baby Jesus.

The origins of the celebration began in overcoming the barriers that many providers would require a social security number for children or be within a certain zip code area to receive toys during the holiday season. Many Latino/Hispanic families could not provide the required documentation and children would go without presents.

The event includes a toy for every child ages 3-10, traditional Latino food, music, parade a toy giveaway, and raffles all free for Latino/Hispanic families. Día de los Reyes Magos event is usually held on the second weekend in January in the Columbus Area.

Ohio Padrino
Recognition Awards

A Padrino is considered a person’s godfather, serving as a protector, mentor and confidant among the Latino communities.

The Ohio Padrino Recognition Awards is based on a deeply rooted compadrazco system that exists all over Latino America. It is the notion of an extended family and the idea that many are there to support each other.

The Award is the most important recognition award presented to an individual, organizations or corporations who have provided mentorship, assistance, support and encouragement to the advancement to the Latino community in Ohio.

This year, the Ohio Padrino Recognition Awards is partnering with the Ohio Hispanic Coalition in celebrating its 30th year of service to the community. This milestone represents the presence of the Latino community in Ohio for more than 30 years, as well as starting the celebration of the Hispanic Heritage Month.
